Deep Purple

O Deep Purple é uma banda de hard rock da Inglaterra, Reino Unido, surgida em 1968 e considerada uma das criadoras do heavy metal e do hard rock, embora o próprio conjunto rejeite qualquer rótulo. Contemporânea de grupos como Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath e Uriah Heep, a marca da banda sempre foi a mistura de guitarra e teclado, com riffs simples e fortes e solos vigorosos. Sua canção mais conhecida é Smoke on the Water, gravada em 1972.

Para quem não é exatamente um fã do Deep Purple parece complicado acompanhar as formações da banda. Vários dos mais talentosos músicos do rock passaram pelo grupo, e, por causa disso, cada formação tem elementos distintos em sua sonoridade. A árvore genealógica do conjunto alcança as principais bandas do rock inglês dos anos 60 e 70 e, com poucos passos, chega ao jazz (Tommy Bolin, o segundo guitarrista do Deep Purple, tocou em um disco do baterista Billy Cobham, que tocou com Miles Davis).

Em fevereiro de 1968, depois de queimar pestana em uma lista de nomes que incluía o pomposo Orpheus, acabou vencendo o título da música favorita da avó de Blackmore: Deep Purple
